Research
Funding Applications for research on amputees/amputation/rehabilitation
The New Zealand Artificial Limb Service has established a small contestable research fund to promote research into issues that will benefit amputees. It is anticipated that the programme will be particularly suitable for summer studentships, with a limit of approximately $5,000 per applicant. Appropriate topics include research on rehabilitation/gait, clinical aspects, amputee pathways, components/materials, prevention strategies especially in the areas of vascular disease and diabetes, but are not limited to these.
Application forms may be downloaded from www.nzalb.govt.nz/documents/ApplicationForm.doc
Applications forms and supporting material should be e-mailed to: info@nzalb.govt.nz, or mailed to:

Research proposals for the 2012-13 year must be received by the Artificial Limb Service by 31 July 2012. Decisions on funding will be made by the Research Committee and will be final, with applicants advised by 31 August 2012.

Information for Carers
At some stage in our lives, most of us will care for or be supported by someone. A very helpful guide is available for anyone in this situation, with information on services and support to help. It is produced by the Ministry for Social Development and may be found on - http://www.msd.govt.nz/documents/what-we-can-do/community/carers/carers-brochure-english.pdf

International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics
New Zealand has a national member society of the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics ( ISPO), to which the New Zealand Artificial Limb Board and many of its staff belong. ISPO holds regular scientific meetings and produces a quarterly journal to enable members to keep up to date with new developments in prosthetics and orthotics.
